Vue Plymouth, one of the highest grossing cinemas in the South West opened its doors to a supersized ‘Vue Xtreme’ screen on Thursday February 9th.

With a total screen size bigger than 11 transit vans, the super-sized Xtreme screen is 30% bigger than standard cinema theatres and delivers a new unrivalled level of entertainment for cinema goers in the South West.

The opening of the Vue Xtreme screen in Plymouth is a result of the success and popularity of the Xtreme screen experience in other Vue sites such as Vue Westfield London. Vue Plymouth is the first of five Vue cinemas to be upgraded with an Xtreme screen as part of a phased national roll-out.

With a screen area over 18 metres wide and over 7 metres high, the new Xtreme screen will immerse cinema goers directly into the film action.  When combined with Vue’s breathtaking digital picture quality, professionally mixed Dolby 7:1 ‘Profound Sound’ and brand new luxury ‘SuperVue’ stepped seating, Plymouth’s cinema goers are in for a truly  ‘Vuenique’ cinema experience.

The new Xtreme screen has  over 400 comfy lounge seats providing incredible views throughout, and for those who want even more luxury there are also 50 VIP seats.

Tim Richards, CEO of Vue Entertainment comments: “We are extremely proud and excited to be rolling out our Vue Xtreme screen experience in Plymouth.  The city has a vibrant cinema going audience and the cinema is our fifth busiest site in the UK with over 1 million admissions each year.”“We want to ensure that Plymouth is at the forefront of cutting edge cinema entertainment and our investment in Vue Plymouth highlights our commitment and dedication to creating the ultimate entertainment experience for everyone in the city and further afield in the South West.”

A 3D re-release of the late nineties blockbuster, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace is the first film to be given the Xtreme screen treatment from 9th February. Plymouth’s Xtreme screen is the equivalent to two T-65 X-Wing Star Fighters and will be an exceptional way for fans witness Episode 1 brought to life in incredible 3D.
