Presented at the ICTA Seminar Series in Barcelona, the award recognises Vue Nederland's new state-of-the-art Alkmaar multiplex. The new cinema, which opened in February 2016, has seven screens and 1,530 seats, including 223 VIP and 105 recliners. It features three Dolby Atmos screens, a Barco 4k cinema projector and one laser projector – offering viewers a richer, more captivating cinematic experience that combines cutting-edge image and sound technologies. The Dolby Atmos sound technology, which has 47 audio channels, moves sound around the theatre with richness and depth.

The opening of the Alkmaar multiplex marked the 2016 roll out of the Vue brand in the Netherlands following Vue's acquisition of the JT Bioscopen estate, the second largest cinema chain in the Netherlands – and the first European cinema to install Dolby Cinema Laser Projection. Vue's acquisition of JT Bioscopen in August 2015 represents its fourth international cinema estate acquisition in three years.  Vue’s wider investment across its pan-European estate includes the roll out of high quality premium seating, allowing customers to enjoy the full cinematic experience in total comfort.

Tim Richards, Vue Founder and CEO, commented: “We are delighted to have won such a prestigious award and are thrilled that our investment in state-of-the art cinema has been recognised. We are committed to delivering a premium entertainment big screen experience for our customers by owning, managing and developing the highest quality cinema assets around the world. The New Build Screen of the Year Award reflects that commitment and I want to thank our team in the Netherlands for an incredible effort.”
